DOWN TOWN is a solo exhibition of work by Middlesbrough based artist, Emma Bennett. The exhibition will survey the artist’s creative practice from 2010 to date, which uses colour and pattern in conjunction with personal connections and memories to Modernist and Post-War Architecture to examine our localised social histories. Works include paintings, drawings and a specially commissioned site-specific wall painting, made during the exhibition.
Navigator North have commissioned Emma to make a new site-specific wall painting in response to The Masham itself. This new work comes after a period of research considering the building as part of Middlesbrough’s High Street and its transformation from public house to retail space and then more recently into Navigator North’s Creative Space in 2021. Emma will create this new work during exhibition opening days with visitors invited into the exhibition to see the work develop over time and find out more. A limited-edition print of the wall painting will be produced.
